BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)
The only accredited professional dental programme in India is the five-year undergraduate Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme. After taking the BDS course, students become doctors. For students hoping to become dentists at public or private hospitals, this course is required. The primary goals of BDS are to instruct and familiarise students with dental procedures and sciences. Four years of classroom instruction and one year of required rotating internship make up the five-year programme.
DCI, the Dental Council of India, regulates the degree. The programme covers a variety of BDS subjects, such as oral surgery, oral pathology, and dental histology. In order to be qualified to practise their profession once they have earned their degree, students must register with the Dental Council of India, which oversees the BDS programme.
In India, candidates must pass the 10+2 exam or have an equivalent degree from an accredited institution with at least 85% in order to be admitted to BDS programmes. In India, entrance exams are typically only given once. The entrance exam, known as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET), is administered once a year at the national level.

BDS admissions are typically determined by the results of the nationwide NEET exam.
Since 2016, students must take the NEET exam in order to be admitted to medical programmes like MBBS, BDS, etc.
To be eligible for the course, the student’s score on the 10+2 qualifying exam must be at least 50%.
Only those candidates who fulfil the eligibility requirements are permitted to proceed with the college’s admissions process.
